Evaluation

This is my final magasine cover. I think it was sucessful because it clearly outlines everything that was asked of us at the start of the task.

I could have improved on this by making the picture not so squashed and making it fit the page better.

This was my final copy of the contents page.

I think it was sucessful as all of the colouring and fonts matched the scheme presented on the cover page.

I could have improved by making the writing clearer and blending the image and text together more.

Overall I am pleased with the appearance of my magazine. I think it met the need of the task well and also is appealing to the target audience.

Photographs

I chose to use this photograph on my cover page, because it photographs the person starring in the main feature of my magasine. I made the image coloured in black and white to add effects and also to contrast it also with the red text.

The photo is a head to shoulder picture as this is what I was asked to use.

I think it would appeal to the target audience because it is in black and white and because it is a friendly, natural picture.

To improve I would have edited the picture so it did not look so squashed and so it contrasted better with the background.

I chose to use this image on my contents page as it is a fun picture showing again the girl who my main feature is focused on.
I edited the lighting to make it more appealing and chose this pose as it make it look like she is having a good time.
Again the picture is in black and white. I thought this would be a good idea as it followed the colouring theme from the front page.

In The Making..

After choosing which photos I wanted to use, I then decided on making the whole of my front page's background, a head to shoulder shot of my model. I then arranged text around her photograph to where I thought they fitted in best. I chose to use the font 'Que Fontita' for my masthead, 'Cartoon' for my tag lines and 'Marcelle' for important flash lines. I also decided that I wanted all writing to be in red apart from the Issue number. I chose for my main image to be in black and white as I thought it set a better contrast between the photographs and text.

Starting My Magazine

We were asked to produce are magazine in 'Adobe InDesign'. To begin with I opened a new document and began to create my magazine cover. I used the website 'www.dafont.com' to download a few more exclusive fonts so I could make my design look more unique and appealing. I then decided which fonts to use on my masthead and tag lines. I then began to construct my front page. I also used this time to go out and photograph Vicky, who I was using as the main feature of my page.

Planning

Initially I made a flat plan which I had drawn out by hand, in which it outlined what I was going to do. It allowed me to decide on what was going to go on my magazine cover, the name of my magazine and how I wanted the layout to look. I also decided to use my friend Vicky as the model for my picture on my cover page. I left spaces where I would put my cover stories.
I chose to focus my cover story 'An interview with a second year' which linked into my cover photo. I chose to use this as it was something that would appeal to first years reading the magazine - who the magazine was aimed at.

Task Outlined

In order to do this task I was asked to create the front cover and contents page of a magazine for students at Sussex Down College. We were asked to have one student photographed on the front, the rest was our own choice.
